For the first time in Victoria the two-day – Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival will be set amongst the vines at the iconic Rochford Wines - in Victoria’s premium wine district the Yarra Valley over the weekend of April 1 - 2, 2017. As an initiative to support the Yarra Valley Arts Community the Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival is working in partnership with the Yarra Valley Arts group to provide a “Festival Community Arts Exhibition” where local artists will be invited to participate in a Wine Barrel Art competition along with a giant mural of the Yarra Valley to be painted on both days of the festival.

Through this unique and local initiative, the two-day festival will have 12 local artists paired to 12 different local primary schools. Each artist will represent their respective school in the Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival "Wine Barrel Art" people's choice exhibition.

These 12 local artists will be given a wine barrel to design in the lead up to the event and turn it into a whimsical work of art following the simple theme of ‘The Yarra Valley'.

The 12 barrels will be displayed at the festival and festival goers will be asked to vote for their favourite designed barrel with a gold coin donation. The best designed wine barrel as voted by the festival goers will be crowned this year's People's Choice recipient and that artist will receive $750 prize money as will their paired school.

"We want showcase the Yarra Valley's unique Arts Community and we want to give the local artists a chance to exhibit their creative flair," says General Manager of The Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival, Ross Stevens.

"The Festival Community Arts Exhibition will give festival goers a chance to experience a different aspect of the festival. They can observe the unique arts culture in the Yarra Valley and also become involved by voting for their favourite wine barrel," says Stevens.

At the Festival Community Arts Exhibition a group of local artists will also be painting a large mural also falling under the Yarra Valley theme. This will give festival goers a chance to stop and watch as the mural is being created.

"It's important to us that we involve as much of the community in this festival. We want to ‘keep it local' and ensure the community is 100% apart of this event and will benefit from it" says Stevens.

This festival will redefine the Yarra Valley; it will not only showcase over 100 of the best local provedores and producers as well as wine, beer and cider artisans, but also showcase the unique arts community in the Yarra Valley and support the local community.

Less than an hour's drive from Melbourne CBD, head to Victoria's leading wine district for the 2017 Yarra Valley Wine & Food Festival and enjoy award-winning wines and some of Yarra Valley's finest food and produce, for a truly memorable experience.
