Hundreds of kids are set to go wild at Anglesea this April 8 - 9, 2017, as the Kids Adventure Outdoors (KAOS) returns for the ultimate adventure weekend hosting a jam packed roster of activities designed to spark lifelong connection with the outdoors. The fully-facilitated weekend will see numerous outdoor recreation camps and organisations in and around the stunning coastal town of Anglesea, where kids aged 3 - 13 years old will experience a range of active adventures including rides, runs, climbs, paddles and plenty more ‘wild’ things planned for the exciting Weekend event! “It’s about getting more kids more active in the outdoors more often,” says event spokesperson, Vicki Chrzanowski, Manager of the YMCA Recreation Camp, one of the host locations for activities.

Perfect for these Autumn school holidays, this exciting outdoor adventure festival aims at engaging children and their families to get more active in the outdoors and nature, whilst influencing ongoing participation in a huge variety of activities. And what's better is that kids only pay $90.00 per day for all activities available and parents go FREE!*

"KAOS is part of a worldwide movement to reconnect children with nature as parents start to recognise the huge positive and therapeutic benefits that come as a result being more active, specifically in an outdoors environment", says Chrzanowski.

"Events like KAOS provide a stepping stone environment for both kids and parents to re-engage with and, importantly, play in nature. Connecting our kids with nature is an important childhood development issue. It touches on health, education, community, recreation and natural resources", says Chrzanowski.

Now in its third successful year, the Kids Adventure Outdoors (KAOS) event is designed to make the most of Anglesea's unique landscapes and outdoor facilities which host everything from climbing walls and archery fields, to high ropes and giant swings.

This year kids will see new activities being added to the roster including; boomerang art and throwing, kite making, learn to ride, a ‘terrific twitch' birdwatching activity, ‘Possum Pete' discoveries putting the bush under the microscope, trampolining, a Bush Ranger session, and an Amazing Race.

Other popular favourites at KAOS, include surfing, camping, mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, and Stand Up Paddle-boarding and plenty more, parents can assure that they will safely get their children engaged in a range of outdoor activities that make the most of nature's playground.

The unique KAOS event was conceived in response to a growing recognition that many children spend unhealthy amounts of time indoors - the average child in Australia spends at least 44 hours per week in front of the TV or a screen - which experts believes contributes significantly to emotional, psychological and health problems during childhood, all of which have the potential for ongoing, negative impacts that span a lifetime.

Families can choose to stay for a single day or the entire weekend- where they can enjoy 2 sessions each day, with a total of 2 activities per session. You can even choose to take part in the "Camp Out" overnight or perhaps stay in cabins on-site at one of the many outdoor camps or caravan parks located in Anglesea.

The event is also a great way to participate in both the Victorian Government's Premier's Active April initiative and Nature Play Week- encouraging all Victorians to do 30 minutes of physical activity a day during April. Active April is part of the Victorian Government's commitment to promote healthy and active lifestyles and get Victorians to join in the fun of increased physical activity.

"Anglesea is the perfect setting for a Kids Adventure Outdoors weekend. It benefits from a beautiful and diverse setting which is the perfect natural playground for all families. The event has something for everyone, providing a safe natural sanctuary where families can explore and enjoy the wilderness experience without having to be too remote or far from facilities," says Raylene Fordham, President of the Business and Tourism Anglesea Association.

Kids Adventure Outdoors taps into academic American author, Richard Louv's, seminal work Last Child In The Woods, linking the lack of nature in the lives of today's wired generation - he dubs it ‘nature-deficit disorder' Louv argues that direct exposure to nature is essential for healthy childhood development and for the physical and emotional health of children and adults.

Kids Adventure Outdoors weekend will also give those parents who have little experience or confidence in taking their kids into nature - a safe, comfortable setting in which to ease their way into the outdoors- and of course, reclaiming some quality family times, spent in the outdoors having oodles of fun.

"For those families yet to experience the joys of camping out under the stars, or who don't have the equipment, or just want to get more experience camping before going it alone, this is the perfect opportunity," says Chrzanowski.

For a wild weekend in Anglesea this April, parents can attend for free while single child tickets are $90.00 per child per day or $160 per child for the whole weekend- with Camp Out at $25.00 per person (including adult) in a 3-person tent including BBQ and breakfast.

So go wild at the 2017 Kids Adventure Outdoors (KAOS) weekend and let your kids participate in a huge variety of outdoor adventures amidst Anglesea's inspiring natural landscape- where they just might find a new kick for Surfing, Canoeing or even Trail Running.
