Melbourne Day is hosting a Melbourne Day FREE Concert in Federation Square headlined by Melbourne-born, Australian music legend Ross Wilson, plus Melbourne’s very own Jack Howard, and Lisa Edwards, on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from noon to 2pm. Over the past 20 years, Melbourne Day Committee has coordinated entertaining activities and cultural events to raise awareness of Melbourne’s history and celebrate our city’s anniversary – but this year it is bigger and better than ever.

In a career that spans over 40 years, Ross Wilson remains one of this country's most respected artists. Ross exploded out of the 1970s as the front man of Daddy Cool, later forming Mondo Rock, which was behind chart-topping singles and albums from the mid-'70s to the late ‘80s.

Former trumpet player for the Melbourne rock band Hunters & Collectors, Jack Howard has covered an enormous amount of musical ground. Jack has played with Midnight Oil, The Living End, The Violent Femmes, Rodriguez, The Break, You Am I, Little Red, Pete Murray and a host of others. Jack has composed a song specifically for Melbourne Day which he will be debuting at the concert.

"I'm so pleased to be a part of the Melbourne Day concert! I've even written a new song about Melbourne - it's all about growing up as a North-Western suburban boy and playing in a rock'n'roll band. I can't wait to debut it on August 30th at Fed Square", said Jack Howard.

He will also perform his latest hits from ‘The Passing Parade' with Nicky Del Ray as well as the Hunters and Collectors classic hit and honorary Melbourne anthem ‘Holy Grail.'

One of Australia's leading performers, Lisa Edwards' success as a vocalist has been well documented. Lisa is best known as a backup singer for John Farnham Band since 1988, where she toured both nationally and internationally. Lisa has worked with some of Australia's biggest acts, including one of Australia's most-highly acclaimed performers and producers, Michael Cristiano. The duo perform regularly and are a popular act around Australia. Lisa and Michael will perform hits from her solo albums as well as the classic Farnham hit ‘You're the Voice.'

"Michael and I are proud and honoured to be involved in the Melbourne Day Concert to celebrate Melbourne's 181st Birthday. We look forward to seeing you all there at the 'birthday bash of the year' in Federation Square for the world's most liveable city", says Lisa Edwards.

The free all-ages concert kicks off at noon.
Melbourne Day aims to educate citizens on the founding of Melbourne, which was August 30, 1835 and to celebrate by highlighting all the wonderful attributes of our city that make it a wonderful place to live, work and visit.
