BALGOWNIE ESTATE BENDIGO ANNOUNCES NEW HEAD CHEF


Balgownie Estate Bendigo has just launched its new fully functioning kitchen and is excited to announce the appointment of leading local chef - Travis Rodwell -- as the new Head Chef at the Bendigo winery. The restaurant is now open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and will continue to offer lunch seven days a week, serving an innovative menu that features delicious fresh seasonal produce prepared by a talented team of chefs under Travis Rodwell’s direction.

Travis brings a wealth of experience and new creative dishes to the table with a menu that reflects his unique cooking style, inspired by provincial French Bistro food and fresh local ingredients.


"I am looking forward to beginning the transformation of Balgownie Estate Bendigo and create an incredible dining experience for guests. The menu will utilise seasonal local produce and match with the incredible range of Balgownie Estate wines", says Travis.


Travis was previously Head Chef and owner at Bouchon in Bendigo, where he began experimenting with his love for simple yet innovative French Bistro food and focussed on matching food and wine.
The new menu takes diners on a culinary journey with exotic entrees such as ‘Everything Wagyu' beef carpaccio, truffle mayonnaise, toasted hazelnuts and baby mâché, Twice baked goats cheese soufflé, ‘Waldorf' salad, Balgownie vincotto, Seared scallops, escabeche dressing, petit herbs, and Charcuterie-selection of house made rillettes, terrine, salami, smoked Wagyu with croutons, brioche, chutney and seasonal pickles.


These entrees are followed by mouth-watering mains including, Pan fried blue eye, braised fennel, tomato and saffron, basil shoots, Pickled and oven roasted lamb rump, du puy lentils, salsa verde, Crispy skin duck breast, braised leg choux farci, ratatouille, duck jus, and Chicken ballotine stuffed with mushroom dulles, braised leeks, double chicken jus- all matched with the perfect wine, handpicked by one of Balgownie's senior sommeliers.


Or from the grill guests can choose from ‘Everything Wagyu' bavette, shallot jus gras, gaufrette potato, ‘Everything Wagyu' porterhouse, green beans, Dijon mustard, and Black Angus scotch, café de Paris butter, watercress salad.


And for dessert, on offer are incredible creations such as Creme brûlée, Calebaut chocolate pudding, praline parfait, Vanilla panda cott, shiraz poached pear, spiced syrup and a Cheese selection served with lavosh, muscatels, quince paste and sliced pear.


The recently renovated Balgownie Wines is the ideal place in Bendigo to spend an afternoon and evening with magnificent food and magnificent company- with views overlooking the vineyards and a cellar door team ready to run you through Balgownie's wine list.
